OldSol of the Month January 2025 – Honda Del Sol Spotlight
Meet Everest Ouyang and His Cypress Green Pearl Beauty!
If there’s one thing we love at OldSols, it’s a good Del Sol story—and Everest Ouyang from Memphis, TN, has a great one! From a chance find in a Mississippi trailer park to a full-blown restoration journey, Everest’s Del Sol adventure is a testament to dedication, passion, and a little bit of Honda magic.

Why the Honda Del Sol?
Everest was drawn to Hondas for all the right reasons—simplicity, driver-focused design, and undeniable practicality at an approachable price point. But the Del Sol? That was something extra special.
“Double-wishbone, an amazing manual, pragmatic interior layout, and then you throw in a targa top, a rear window, AND a usable trunk? Sign me up!” he says. And honestly, who can argue with that logic?
The Del Sol Scene in Memphis
Unfortunately, the Del Sol community in Memphis is pretty much a ghost town. While Everest occasionally spots them in the wild or on Facebook Marketplace, the local car scene is heavily dominated by American muscle and European builds. That said, JDM/Honda enthusiasts are definitely lurking in the shadows—but an active Del Sol movement? Not quite yet. Maybe it’s time to change that, Memphis!
A Rocky Start and a Glorious Transformation
Like many of us, Everest started his Honda journey with a project car—except that project was a ‘91 Honda Prelude. It didn’t take long to realize that parts availability was a nightmare (oops ). But the Del Sol itch never left, thanks to an early influence: ChrisFix’s turbo Del Sol videos.
In December 2021, Everest finally found his gem—a Del Sol sitting in a Mississippi trailer park, waiting for a second chance at life. First order of business? A transmission swap, since the original had a worn-out input shaft. Unfortunately, the salvage yard replacement wasn’t much better. But that didn’t stop Everest! He drove the car for a year before setting his sights on getting it road-trip ready for CHD9 and the 6th Annual Southeast Sols Meet.
What followed was four months of intense weekend wrenching with a friend—replacing nearly every suspension component and engine gasket. A bout of COVID tried to slow him down, but the mission continued.
Shoutout time! Everest credits two amazing people who helped bring his Sol back to life:
- Scot Durham, who worked his magic on the original transmission.
- @ongsgaragekustom, who gave that cypress green pearl paint a jaw-dropping refresh that absolutely glows in the sunlight.
And just in time for the big road trip! Everest and his Sol made the epic trek eastward, tackling The Back and the legendary Tail of the Dragon. He even had to sleep in the car when a hurricane knocked out power in Marion—turns out, the Del Sol might not have the best back support, but it sure has plenty of legroom!

What Makes the Del Sol So Special?
Two words: party tricks.
“The roof rack and rear window setup is pure genius,” Everest says. “I can drop the top and still have full trunk access—where else do you get that?” Plus, he’s already got his eye on one of the coolest aftermarket mods out there—the elusive clear top.
The Build: Keeping It Clean and Classic
Everest’s Del Sol stays true to its roots with a clean, simple setup:
- Wheels: EM1 wheels (with Enkei CDR9s making an appearance in some pics)
- Suspension/Brakes: Stock
- Engine: Stock D16Y8
- Exterior: That stunning stock Cypress Green Pearl

Future Plans? Keep It Fun!
Unlike many project car builds that spiral into an endless list of modifications, Everest’s philosophy is simple—keep it fun and engaging. Maybe some coilovers and summer tires in the future, but for now, his Del Sol is exactly what he wants it to be: a joy to drive every single day.
Everest, thanks for sharing your awesome Del Sol journey with us! We love seeing these cars come back to life, and your story is proof that passion and persistence pay off. Keep repping the Del Sol love in Memphis—we see you!
