OldSol of the Month: November

A modified blue car with a black carbon fiber hood is displayed indoors as the OldSol of the Month: November. It features a roll cage, wide-body kit, custom wheels, and a stripped and race-prepared interior. Other modified cars are visible in the background.

The **OldSol of the Month November 2023** features a meticulously restored 1994 Honda Del Sol, highlighting the passion and craftsmanship of its owner. This month’s winner stands out for its attention to detail and commitment to the Honda Del Sol community.

Back in 1993, I had just gotten my license, and I spotted a delSol. The ingenuity of the targa with storage plus the reliability of a Honda- I needed that car. My father was too practical to get his daughter a brand new car- always telling me “you will likely wreck your first”. I got a 1984 Honda Accord… and yes, I ended up in multiple wrecks, all but 2 were not my fault; there were 8. Fast forward to when my child is grown and my father passes- I get my blue delSol, then another to save for when I can’t drive a manual as easily (white), then another 2 for the hubs (vtec and Lucas)

Purchased May of 2018, my 1994 delSol si was all stock, being sold by the second owner near Greensboro, NC. As I started it up and was about to pull away- “here, this goes with it”. It was an original blue tint ameripol. I had no idea what that was at the time, but I soon learned.

I had planned on keeping it mostly stock (it was my dream car stock) but a few updates here and there. First I got Klutch SL2 wheels. Soon after I mounted them my whole build changed; I nearly had a head-on collision with a motorcycle in my lane within a blind curve less than a mile from the tail of the dragon. My car trajectory changed that day.

From just having wheels to buying up pieces that inspire me. My wheels were 8.5 wide- so fender flares were purchased and saved. I ordered my aero kit from Solkreations365. I found an S2k cluster, S2k seats, and an unused, unmounted aftermarket bumper. Then we updated things under the hood since I fell in love with the twisty-turns in the smokies.

Under the hood we have the original d16z6 with an mpc fuel rail, skunk 2 intake, 1320 UEL header, carbon air intake, carbon wiper cowl, carbon fuse box cover, color matched radiator hoses, color matched brake lines.

Inside we have a ghost box, ghost key, ghost lock, JDi kill switch, restotuner gauge pod, S2k seats with matching upholstery, ap1 cluster with bright white led conversion with a blue filter, sir steering wheel custom wrapped in blue and black leather with blue stitching, custom blue rose shift knob

Suspension wise I have TruHart drag spec, hardrace 3pt engine bay brace, Velocity Race Fab targa brace, 3pt front fender braces, mpc drop forks in the front and lowering control arms in the rear, along with upper and lower rear strut braces.

A split image: Top half shows a blue Honda Del Sol parked sideways against a brick wall. The car's roof is off, and it has silver alloy wheels. Bottom half reveals the car's engine bay featuring an exposed Honda VTEC engine with blue and white components. OldSol of the Month: November.

Extras include kevlar parts (hood, gas door, door sills, third brake light surround and sail panels), clear tails, clear fog (garnish) and clear 3rd brake lights. I also run EBC yellow stuff brakes with slotted and cross drilled rotors. Also, when it’s a driving event I usually don’t have my show bumper on.

Refresh the D16, possibly turbo until the right K comes my way. As for the overall look of my sol- I’m right where I envisioned it 4 years ago when I began to change it.
